I am a mixed media artist. I work with close shots of my own paintings, images from the Internet, and photographs I take during my long walks looking for derelict murals and buildings, graffitied doorways and posters peeling off of walls. So many interesting details of torn, battered, cracked and peeling surfaces, which refers to the beginnings of my abstract expressionist career, when I used to add plaster, sand and all sorts of materials to my canvases. There is something about the concept of building up, tearing down, and rebuilding, that I´m drawn to so often.
My work explores my passion for symbols, pop culture, advertising, fashion, design, billboards and brand images. I am a compulsive and perfectionist artist and one can find a huge flux of visual information, as well as a skilled treatment of the surface. It is a painstaking process, which sometimes takes two to three weeks to finish a large work. I´m so into the physicality of the process! A closer look reveals fine details and an incredible pictorial outcome. By the way, I use music titles or sentences from song lyrics in a way that give people a rough idea on what I am trying to say without much cerebral explanation.
